Horrible sub for music way to MUDDY Aug 28, 2010 I bought this sub because of all the reviews but when i got it and plugged it in its sounds like a piece of crap. The bass is wayyyy to muddy. If you like deep bass in your music this sub is NOT for you. It looks like a well be selling this sub
Just what I needed at a great price Aug 21, 2010 Needed to replace my 8yr old Polk Audio Sub, didn't need anything high end to add a bit of base while enjoying a movie. This Yamaha is perfect.
Value minded Subwoofer without sacrificing quality Aug 11, 2010 This is a great value minded Subwoofer without sacrificing any of the quality. I know that there are much more expensive subwoofers out there, but for the price I am very happy. After listening to the sound quality you will be glad for your pocket and ears!!!!!
Really enhances action movies Aug 08, 2010 This Subwoofer has a nice high output wattage. It has not only a volume knob but also a knob to adjust the crossover frequency to between 25-200 so you can adjust where the subwoofer kicks in. And it also has a standby mode it goes into when not getting a signal. The Onkyo is also more powerful and has legs attached vs the Yahama which sits on rubber pads, the kind you stick on. The only thing the Onkyo does not have are that the Yamaha has are the speaker wire inputs. ...for just a little more money you can get a subwoofer with more features. I am using this subwoofer with my samsung 46-Inch 1080p LCD TV with Integrated Sound . The sub has a good reliable sound once you find the right volume, and really compliments the TV's 10 speaker 5.1 sound bar. The only controls you have however are an on/off switch, a volume knob and a high/low switch that I think changes the switch over frequency. It does have an rca input plus speaker wire inputs which is nice so you can easily integrate it with a TV like mine or a traditional Home Theater Receiver. The finish is nice and looks classy and the unit is heavy, due to the magnet in the speaker and its well built. It comes with a pad of rubber stickers to put on the bottom that kind of struck me as cheap yet it works okay.

Great home theater sub Aug 01, 2010 I am a person who can appreciate good sound, yet I would hardly characterize myself as a totally obsessive audiophile. And, that's why this sub has worked out so well for me.
When my vintage AV receiver bit the dust, I replaced it with a Yamaha RX-V465, which now gave me additional speaker capabilities that I never had before. This amp had outputs for a center channel and a sub woofer, something my old receiver did not. This now allowed me to complete a 7-channel setup in conjunction with the rear surround speakers that were already in place. Since my existing system was comprised of a newish, decent quality set of JBLs, I opted for a JBL center speaker to match what was already there. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the matching sub, and the reviews for the low-end JBLs were not particularly good. That's what led me to Google to see what else might be available.
This sub is just perfect for the average film lover like me - someone who already had a decent surround system but is looking for a lower-priced sub to fill in their bottom end.. It delivers window shaking punch with distortion-free clarity. Had I spent $300 on a better one, I almost doubt that I would have noticed much of a difference.
For the record I waited 9 months or so to write this, since personally, I think people jump the gun by writing reviews of products straight out of the box.
