5Impressive  Aug 26, 2010
By Jim Chou
I was looking for a secondary monitor to use with my HTPC to use at the breakfast table when I didn't want to turn on the big plasma, and thought this might be interesting because it's LED backlit (edgelit really) and had Netflix and some other widgets.

It turns out to be really cool... good picture quality - not as much contrast ratio as a much pricier, larger TV obviously, but decent for casual TV watching, good colors and viewing angles. The Netflix support works really well, streamed HD over the wireless without any issues, apparently the same quality as my Roku HD box - that alone is worth buying it for.

Some of the widgets are pretty useless (I'm looking at you, CBS), they're basically just ad channels, and I haven't found news that's more than two lines long. It would be nice if there were a web browser for it, or a dedicated NY Times app.

The sound quality isn't bad for a TV... you'd get better sound adding some cheap computer speakers with a subwoofer, but I don't really blame the TV, it's so skinny there's not really room for decent speakers.

All in all, quite a nice toy, great for a dorm or kitchen.

5Internet apps are a game changer.  Aug 08, 2010
By P. Chittiboina
I wanted a monitor for home office to connect to my Macbook Pro. Looked at monitors, and settled on the Vizio instead. This is an early review (bought it yesterday).

The unit is very light and is easy to assmble (no tools required other than opposable thumbs). Connected to the network via LAN cable to Airport Extreme. The unit detected internet with no problems. The internet apps were available right out of the set-up process including some of my favorites like Pandora and Netflix.

The internet apps allow me to watch videos off Netflix and listen to music without turning on the computer at all. I haven't used the unit as a monitor yet. Will update the review when the cables arrive.

Pro: Light, good picture quality, direct internet connectivity.
Cons: Painful to enter information from the remote, slight lag in moving between apps.

Updates to follow.

5Great TV  Aug 22, 2010
By John W. Bacon
We have only had this TV for a week but we love this TV. It replaced an old TV in a bedroom that required a digital converter box. We hooked it up to a rabbit ears antenna, and followed the easy on-screen instructions to connect it to our wireless home network. We live in a metro area and with only the rabbit ears, we get a terrific picture. Besides the picture, one thing we especially appreciate is the automatic sound level control feature that probably all Vizio televisions come with. It stops commercials from blasting us. We haven't used the Web apps yet, but we would already recommend this TV to anyone for a bedroom or office.

4Snappy little TV with great web-apps  Apr 22, 2011
By KyleB "coyote-65"
I'd found this TV in the clearance aisle of a chain store for a bit less than the price here, but in the end I would have been happy to pay Amazon's full price.
The unit works great overall, the web apps are zippy (after update), the picture quality is fantastic for the price paid, the wireless connected without issues, and short of the remote being a little clunky it's a great buy for the price as a second tv for the kids, a second monitor on the desk, or even as a 'move around' set.

Interesting bits:
1. Wireless: Worked great out-of-the-box. Took maybe a minute for it to connect to my home network, and so far the single strength's been great up to 35' and through at least one wall. I would feel confident that my 65yo Mom could connect this TV wired or wirelessly.

2. Self Update: The tv updated its firmware over the wireless within an hour of being turned on. The newer firmware did wonders for the web apps as far as speed, app choices, and interfaces for Netflix and Amazon On-demand.

3. Video web apps: Netflix, Amazon On-Demand, Hulu Plus, Pandora, and a couple others are all great. Picture quality can vary from the supplier, but of the few tests run so far the picture quality of Amazon on-demand, Hulu Plus, and the majority of the netflix videos we looked at were HD quality or nearly indistinguishable from HD. There's some buffering/blocking at the start of Netflix videos, but disappears after 10-30sec. Watched a few minutes of Battlestar Galactica HD from Amazon On-Demand and it definitely passed our in-house HD-or-not test with flying colors ('Look good to you?' - 'Yup, looks good to me'). Two thumbs up for AOD.

4. Other web-apps: Meh. The web apps consist mostly of Yahoo Widget devices, and at this stage I would describe them as basic. The Facebook app reminds me of my blackberry interface. This TV does NOT utilize a browser interface, only widget/app interfaces. There are a few game apps, but I haven't tried them yet. The game selections seem basic, texas holdem, spider solitaire, a few young kids games, nothing too fancy.

5. No YouTube app, but there is a Yahoo Videos app. Not explored.

6. Speakers: 3 watt tiny, tin-can'ish speakers. There is a headphone and optical output on the back of this machine, so there are options w/external speakers, but do not expect much other than getting the job done out of the internal speakers. For the non-discerning they're fine, but anyone planning to get their rock on need to supply their own. For me they work great, the kids don't care and they get the job done if I'm using it as a second monitor.

7. HDMI connectors - 2 supplied and work great for connecting the PS3 with as few cables as possible.

8. Remote: Kinda clunky, kinda cheap feeling. I'm a little worried about dropping it from counter height onto a hard surface.. Also, there are limited controls on the TV, everything is manipulated from the remote. Unfortunately, any text entry is done from a selection grid on screen, moving the cursor, clicking 'ok' on the remote, moving the cursor again, clicking 'ok' on the remote again.. Not so bad a task, but the way the included remote is designed the 'ok' key is buried in the middle of the arrow keys sometimes causing more than one 'ok' entry (which then forces you to arrow-key down to the on-screen delete key and then another 'ok' button-cick.. this remote should have been designed with separate delete & enter keys..) I'm considering replacing the remote with a universal learning one and putting the oem up for safe-keeping.

9. Portability: Given the built-in wifi, there's really only the power cable to carry with the TV as .long as you're watching online video.

10. Connections/Video quality: 2HDMI, 1 Component, 1 Antenna/Cable Connection, 1 composite, 1 RGB. So far I've tested the HDMI only, connected to an AMD video card and a PS3. The 1080p is fantastic from both sources, and after fiddling a bit with the TV's video color/brightness settings I'm very pleased with the quality of color and clarity for both monitor and gaming use. I haven't noticed ghosting from either computer games or the PS3.

For it's price the unit packs some good bang for the buck - Portable, easy setup/use, better than expected image quality, wifi out-of-the-box, and web-apps (Netflix or Amazon On-Demand alone would have made this an ideal purchase) - with the caveats being the kinda klunky remote and the tin can sounding speakers. Overall a great second TV or a TV for the Xbox/PS3 kid in the house, or as a second monitor/entertainment device on your desk.

5Great product!  Oct 30, 2010
By jadelung
I have been looking for a small TV for my bedroom and did a lot of shopping around. This TV is amazing.

The best thing about this TV is the built-in Wifi. You don't need to purchase anything extra to get the Wifi to work. For example my Tivo unit you have to buy an antenna, which is not cheap. The internet apps are amazing!

I love the Web Videos App you can watch on-demand material from CBS, FOX, WB, PBS, and more! It's like Hulu!

It has a Vudu app. A VUDU Set Top Box on Amazon cost $199.99! I just paid $238.00 on Amazon for a TV that has Vudo, Netflix, Amazon On-Demand and more.

This TV saves you money you don't need to buy a Roku, VUDU, or Boxee! All you need is this great TV!

Pros: Great picture, built-in Wifi!, great apps, thin and light, easy to use,.

Cons: No slide-out keyboard remote, remote does not light up in dark, sound is okay, but not great.

I give this TV a 4.5 out of 5. If the sound was a little bit better it would be a 5. It would be nice if you had the option to purchase the slide-out remote separately.
