Nice unless it's windy outside Jun 15, 2009
By A. Peters
"ablpete"
While the product description says this has a cast aluminum pole, it is really an extruded aluminum pole that is only slightly heavier gauge than a beverage can. Within days of placing it on my deck, we had a moderate wind which snapped the pole in two places. My older umbrella actually has a cast aluminum pole and has withstood years of heavier winds. This product would be a nice accent in a greenhouse, or some other indoor application, but it should not be used anytime there is a possibility of wind.

Horrible, low quality umbrella May 26, 2009
By J. Litzler Umbrella broke the 2nd day it was on my patio. MILD wind snapped it off and the "metal" bracket broke off. Supposedly has a 1 year warranty.....not getting any help from Amazon/"Strathwood"

Gotta Have Shade Apr 18, 2008
By James H. Lewis This umbrella has great size, gives good shade coverage. The tilt feature works very well and the wind hole in the top actually works. This is a great value for the dollar.

No warranty if it breaks May 02, 2009
By Peter It's seems like a well-built umbrella, but within a day of putting it up, the hinge lock button broke inside the hinge, so it just flops over now. What really annoys me is that when I called Amazon to report the problem, they said that because I ordered it just over 1 month ago, they won't replace it, and I need to deal direct with the manufacturer. Unfortunately the manufacturer is in the UK, and apparently has no US presence. That is very poor customer service from Amazon, and means that if there is a problem outside 30 days from purchase, then you have no warranty.
UPDATE May 03
Following an email complaint, Amazon decided that they would "make an exception" and issue a full refund, as strangely enough the product is suddenly unavailable. That's better customer service, if somewhat late. It also now appears from a bit of research that Strathwood is an Amazon label (the UK Strathwood turned out to be a publishing company), which makes this situation really ridiculous. What's more, the Amazon customer service reps I talked to were trying to get me the contact details by searching with Google. That does not inspire confidence in Amazon customer service.

Nice but slight problem Jun 04, 2009
By Shopgirl This umbrella is a really nice umbrella for the money. The fabric and quality seem really nice, the pole is aluminum, which seems flimsy, but it was stable even when it was breezy. The problem we had with the umbrella was the tilt mechanism. Although the umbrella description doesn't say it has this feature, it does, and ours broke after having it up for a few days. We had the umbrella up and went to tilt it and the spring in the tilt button popped out and then the button itself broke and popped right out. We searched the yard thinking it could be repaired, but the metal button was sheared right off. Now the umbrella won't stay upright as the entire top portion wants to tilt over since there is no spring and button to keep upright. We did get a full refund from Amazon, but I think we'll try a different umbrella the next time around. My husband, being the handyman that he is, is trying to come up with some way to salvage the umbrella and keep it in an upright position as it is a nice umbrella and there is nothing wrong with the rest of it.
