Description:

Handsomely designed and built to last, this set of two stackable dining chairs from Strathwood makes setting up for guests quick and easy. The chairs are made of a dense and highly durable hardwood with a fine-sanded, oil-stained finish in a warm, mahogany brown tone. Seats and backs feature a slatted design, so rainwater easily falls through and dries, and they are secured with rust-resistant hardware. Assembly is easy, with all parts and hardware included. Each chair measures 22-1/4 inches deep by 19-3/8 inches wide by 36 inches high, and weighs 15.45 pounds. The chairs can be stacked up to four high for efficient storage.

Crafted from durable, Earth-friendly eucalyptus hardwood, this furniture is intended for outdoor use in all weather. A beautiful hardwood comparable to teak and with excellent weather-resistant properties, eucalyptus is dense and naturally resistant to rot and insect infestation. Certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), there is no doubt about the responsible production and consumption of this wood. The rapid growth of eucalyptus trees makes them more readily available and more easily affordable. In addition, furniture constructed of eucalyptus is light enough to move easily and requires no oiling unless to maintain a desired look.

Left untreated, eucalyptus will weather when exposed to the elements, turning a soft shade of silver/gray similar to the weathering of teak. In addition, when untreated, natural splitting or cracks will appear, but this will not affect the durability of the furniture. To guard against this weathering process and to maintain a desired look, apply coats of a hardwood oil. The frequency of necessary oil applications depends on the intensity of the outdoor elements. The furniture has already been oiled prior to packing, and it is recommended that an oil treatment be repeated at least once a year. Giving the furniture an extra treatment before exposing to rain will prolong the “new” look and ensure a longer life.

After eucalyptus furniture has weathered, it can be restored if desired by sanding down the surface, cleaning it, and then applying oil to prevent more weathering. To clean it, mix one tablespoon of bleach, five tablespoons of a gentle dishwashing liquid, and a gallon of water, and gently scrub the mixture on the surface of the wood with a soft bristle brush. Rinse the solution from the furniture, and allow it to dry completely in the sun. Developed for use in high humidity, the furniture is best not stored in centrally heated areas, as that could lead to excessive drying out of the wood.

Wood that becomes saturated with water and left over an extended period without drying out is more likely to warp and rot. The bases of furniture legs are probably the most vulnerable when it comes to water damage. If wood furniture is kept in the grass, at the poolside, or on a surface that collects rain water, the legs can become saturated. Covering the bottoms of each leg with rubberized material or small sections of cedar fencing material will help protect furniture from rotting from the bottom up.

Strathwood furniture has quality, ease of use, and casual elegance at its core. Each piece is rigorously tested for durability, and assembly instructions have been standardized for simplicity from start to finish. Strathwood furniture is sleekly designed, handsomely finished, and built to last. This classic style and reliable craftsmanship will weather ever-changing trends and regular use for years to come.

1Returned -- Disappointed  Sep 03, 2007
By Eric Braganca "ebrags"
I bought two sets with the matching fold-out table. They arrived within a few days as expected. The chairs looked good when I took them out of the box and set them up, but they developed large cracks within 3 weeks. The cracks ran longitudinally up the legs and happened even after I had oiled them. I returned the chairs for a refund.

2Cheaply made  Jul 28, 2007
By E. L. Martens "Entourage E"
Purchased these chairs to go along with a table I recently refinished. They are very cheaply made. Held together by only 6 small bolts. When you sit in them they feel like they are going to fall apart. Very unhappy and not worth it. I doubt they'll last a year before one breaks.

5Solid chairs  Oct 21, 2007
By Chainsaw
We have owned two of these chairs for just over a week now, and we love them. Everyone who has seen them seems to like the chairs too. They are made of solid wood--a plus in today's furniture market. The wood has subtle grains and is a nice honey color. The chairs are heavier than I expected, but also shorter than we had guessed (the back probably stands 3-4 inches shorter than your standard dining room chair). They appear to be made in Vietnam.

The assembly was simple (only six bolts) and the chairs went together in no time. My wife had both assembled in less than 15 minutes.

When putting the chairs together, I recommend that you tighten the bolts as you would lug nuts on a tire--namely, don't fully cinch one down until all of the bolts are snug. The first chair was a little wobbly when first put together, which I think was a result of trying to fully tighten one of the bolts before the rest were in place. It was a quick fix, however; all we did was snug-tighten each bolt and then once that was done, we cinched each one. Having learned that, the second chair came together well and both do not have any wobble to them.

The chairs are attractive enough that we are using them inside the house for extra seating. I am not sure how they would hold up outside under the elements. My guess is not as well as something more expensive such as teak, but would still do fairly well outside. Overall, we are very pleased with the purchase.

5Strathwood Lido Chairs are a great value  Aug 06, 2007
By R. Allen
I ordered these chairs because they were so cheap, and I am thrilled by their quality craftsmanship and durability. I had a party this weekend where everyone was sitting comfortably on these chairs and complimenting how great they look.

3Teak Side Chairs  Jun 29, 2011
By W. H. Ferguson
I ordered the teak table, 2 arm chairs and 2 side chairs.

The arm chairs have built in structural integrity, but the side chairs are weak, having no cross bracing to prevent collapse if someone leans back on the rear legs.

I bought addtional bracing from a local hardware store, but could only get them to fit the front legs.

I recommend only ordering the arm chairs, as the arms provide some built in lateral strength.
