Description:

Featuring a slightly reclined seat and arcing arms, this Strathwood bench makes a comfortable and handsome addition to any porch, patio, deck, or yard, as well as any indoor living space. Two removable back cushions add comfort and decorative appeal, and they independently adjust to give support high or low, where it's needed. A 1-piece cushion adorns the seat and is also easily removed. The ribbed design on the frame's seat and back is both attractive and functional. The slats are far enough apart to allow rain water to fall through and dry out and close enough together to provide an even seating surface.

The Gibranta 2-seater bench is part of a coordinating collection that includes an arm chair and a coffee table. Pair the pieces in the Gibranta collection with the kapur hardwood pieces in the Anderson bar collection or the Bradford collection for a fully accessorized outdoor set. Sized for convenience and utility, the bench measures 47-1/2 inches wide by 28 inches deep by 35 inches tall and weighs 31 pounds. Some easy assembly is required on arrival.

Crafted from durable, Earthy-friendly eucalyptus hardwood, this furniture is intended for outdoor use in all weather. A beautiful hardwood comparable to teak and with excellent weather-resistant properties, Eucalyptus is dense and naturally resistant to rot and insect infestation. Certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), there is no doubt about the responsible production and consumption of this wood. The rapid growth of eucalyptus trees makes them more readily available and more easily affordable. In addition, furniture constructed of eucalyptus is light enough to move easily and requires no oiling unless to maintain a desired look.

Left untreated, eucalyptus will weather when exposed to the elements, turning a soft shade of silver/gray similar to the weathering of teak. In addition, when untreated, natural splitting or cracks will appear, but this will not affect the durability of the furniture. To guard against this weathering process and to maintain a desired look, apply coats of a hardwood oil. The frequency of necessary oil applications depends on the intensity of the outdoor elements. The furniture has already been oiled prior to packing, and it is recommended that an oil treatment be repeated at least once a year. Giving the furniture an extra treatment before exposing to rain will prolong the “new” look and ensure a longer life.

After eucalyptus furniture has weathered, it can be restored if desired by sanding down the surface, cleaning it, and then applying oil to prevent more weathering. To clean it, mix one tablespoon of bleach, five tablespoons of a gentle dishwashing liquid, and a gallon of water, and gently scrub the mixture on the surface of the wood with a soft bristle brush. Rinse the solution from the furniture, and allow it to dry completely in the sun. Developed for use in high humidity, the furniture is best not stored in centrally heated areas, as that could lead to excessive drying out of the wood.

Wood that becomes saturated with water and left over an extended period without drying out is more likely to warp and rot. The bases of furniture legs are probably the most vulnerable when it comes to water damage. If wood furniture is kept in the grass, at the poolside, or on a surface that collects rain water, the legs can become saturated. Covering the bottoms of each leg with rubberized material or small sections of cedar fencing material will help protect furniture from rotting from the bottom up.

Cushion Care and Cleaning: Gently brush off dirt before it becomes embedded in the fabric and wipe up any spills as soon as they occur. Gently spot clean only with mild soap and cool water using a sponge or soft brush, then air dry cushions in a sunny location. Bring cushions indoors during inclement weather and store in a dry place when not in use.

Strathwood furniture has quality, ease of use, and casual elegance at its core. Each piece is rigorously tested for durability, and assembly instructions have been standardized for simplicity from start to finish. Strathwood furniture is sleekly designed, handsomely finished, and built to last. This classic style and reliable craftsmanship will weather ever-changing trends and regular use for years to come.

4Good Set for the Price  Jul 27, 2008
By John Borgese "John B."
Ordered the whole set, bench, table and chairs. Very attractive and good quality for the price. The only issue I had was that when it got wet the color ran and stained the new brick patio we just had built. Got the stain out with a special cleaner I had to buy for $25 a gallon. Solved the problem with a coat of wipe on poly but it should have come with some kind of sealer in my opinion.

3Great price and style, quality not high  Mar 04, 2008
By C. Jesson "photographer"
For $99 it is a great deal BUT it came with a crack in the wood in the arm and splintered wood on the inside of both arms. The box looked like it had been drop kicked from the factory & the foam they used to pack it was so low in quality that it was frittering from the impact of the damage and "snowed" all over our front porch when opened. It seems reasonably sturdy to sit on and was not hard to assemble. It sits low without the cushion, so keep that in mind if you plan to go without the cushion. Attractive for the price, but not nearly as nice as our $350 bench.

4good product  Feb 11, 2009
By K. Chi
We just bought this bench for our patio. It was very simple to put together (only 4 pieces), the instructions good and design simple. It's sturdy and we love how it looks. The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is because the measurements in the product description are misleading. The height and length are spot on but the depth is listed at 30. I was presuming that the seat depth was close to that but it's not even 20 inches deep. I was hoping to put thick cushions on the back and have it be much deeper. I'm disapointed with that but love the overall product otherwise. We also couldn't figure out how to attach the back cushions.

4Great product for the price!  Nov 29, 2010
By Daniel Nguyen "Dan Daze"
I needed some outdoor benches for an enclosed porch area and these fit my needs perfectly. They are economically and asthetically palatable. You can easily pay 4 times more for something similar online. The finish is rich just like the pics; It is pretty sturdy at only 30 lbs. per bench, and the attachable cushions provide adequate comfort and are made to unzip so you can wash them. The installation was very easy. It took us probably 15 minutes for each bench but 1 person can put it together. The only gripe I have is the 2 back-seat cushions attach with velcro, but the straps don't reach far enough to connect to each other. I had to buy some velcro strips, stick them onto the back of the bench, and attach the cushions on those velcro strips on the bench. The quick-fix works fine but I don't think that's how it was intended to attach. Only time will tell me how long the finish and sturdiness will last, but I'm happy with the purchase.
