Description:

Entertain family and guests outdoors year round with Strathwood's set of two hardwood bar chairs. Designed for outdoor use in all weather, the chairs' ribbed design gives them beauty and function. Slats are close enough together to provide an even seating surface, and far enough apart to allow rain water to fall through so the chairs can aerate. A matching bar table is available separately in Strathwood's coordinating Bradford hardwood collection. Pair the pieces in the Bradford collection with other hardwood pieces from Strathwood. Sized to fit most any porch, patio, deck, or balcony, (or indoor rec room) each chair measures 21 inches deep by 20 inches wide by 48 inches tall and weighs 22 pounds. Some easy assembly is required.

Crafted from durable, Earth-friendly eucalyptus hardwood, this furniture is intended for outdoor use in all weather. A beautiful hardwood comparable to teak and with excellent weather-resistant properties, eucalyptus is dense and naturally resistant to rot and insect infestation. Certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), there is no doubt about the responsible production and consumption of this wood. The rapid growth of eucalyptus trees makes them more readily available and more easily affordable. In addition, furniture constructed of eucalyptus is light enough to move easily and requires no oiling unless to maintain a desired look.

Left untreated, eucalyptus will weather when exposed to the elements, turning a soft shade of silver/gray similar to the weathering of teak. In addition, when untreated, natural splitting or cracks will appear, but this will not affect the durability of the furniture. To guard against this weathering process and to maintain a desired look, apply coats of a hardwood oil. The frequency of necessary oil applications depends on the intensity of the outdoor elements. The furniture has already been oiled prior to packing, and it is recommended that an oil treatment be repeated at least once a year. Giving the furniture an extra treatment before exposing to rain will prolong the “new” look and ensure a longer life.

After eucalyptus furniture has weathered, it can be restored if desired by sanding down the surface, cleaning it, and then applying oil to prevent more weathering. To clean it, mix one tablespoon of bleach, five tablespoons of a gentle dishwashing liquid, and a gallon of water, and gently scrub the mixture on the surface of the wood with a soft bristle brush. Rinse the solution from the furniture, and allow it to dry completely in the sun. Developed for use in high humidity, the furniture is best not stored in centrally heated areas, as that could lead to excessive drying out of the wood.

Wood that becomes saturated with water and left over an extended period without drying out is more likely to warp and rot. The bases of furniture legs are probably the most vulnerable when it comes to water damage. If wood furniture is kept in the grass, at the poolside, or on a surface that collects rain water, the legs can become saturated. Covering the bottoms of each leg with rubberized material or small sections of cedar fencing material will help protect furniture from rotting from the bottom up.

Strathwood furniture has quality, ease of use, and casual elegance at its core. Each piece is rigorously tested for durability, and assembly instructions have been standardized for simplicity from start to finish. Strathwood furniture is sleekly designed, handsomely finished, and built to last. This classic style and reliable craftsmanship will weather ever-changing trends and regular use for years to come.

5Wonderful Product!  Jul 12, 2008
By Christine M. Wold "Jesse's Girl"
I ordered 4 of these chairs. They were delivered right on time for my upcoming BBQ. They were very easy for me, a young 5' woman, to assemble. The only thing I can think of that might not be so awesome is that three of the dowels supplied for assembly didn't quite end up flush with the holes, but they were very easy to shave off with just a box-cutter. The material is very good quality. I have no worries of getting splinters when I jump on and off of them. Like I said I'm 5' so it takes some effort for me to get on and off of them, but they are very sturdy & stable for climbing on. I wouldn't even be nervous to stand on these as a ladder to reach things up high. That's kind of a big deal when you're short but still independant.

2Good looking chair, but poor quality  Jun 11, 2011
By James
I ordered two sets (4 chairs). The first chair had an obvious chip in the seat. Not a big problem, and by itself not worth complaining about, but a little annoying nonetheless. On to the second chair: this one had a broken support rail (snapped at the joint) on a factory assembled piece. Not completely discouraged yet, I moved on to the third. One of the slats on the chair back had split and was 'fixed' with a giant glue patch. Didn't bother with the fourth before returning them.

I really want to like these chairs; they look good and they're inexpensive. Maybe I just received a bad batch. If I can't find something comparable for a reasonable price, I may roll the dice and try another set. For now, though, I really can't recommend them.

4Met expectations - great chairs but required some extra care to assemble  May 28, 2010
By D. Leung
Just got 4 of these bad boys. These patio chairs look great against my granite top 36" wide/41" tall round patio table. The finish is respectable and they're quite sturdy (if you install them right, see below for more). Great buy for the price.. at less than $60 each, I was not able to find anything better at this price point!

Packaging: I found a few dings here and there but nothing unacceptable. The largest scratch was a 1.5cm long, half a cm wide edge piece scraped off of the seat on one chair. nothing you can see unless you examine it - especially a non-issue if you throw seat cushions over them.

Assembling: It took me the first chair to experiment to figure out the best way to assembly these chairs. The parts are assembled with tougue and groove joinery with wood stubs that hold the pieces together. To achieve the most durable and sturdy construct, I applied a handsome amound of glue to each joint. Since some wood stubs could be too tight or too big to fit through the predrilled holes, I used a drill with drill bit exactly the size of the predrilled holes to ensure a perfect, tight and flush fit.

Results: These chairs do not look cheap and they are sturdy if put together right. I cannot speak to the durability as I just got them but the finish looks great with beautiful grain and color variation. The wood is quite soft though so the finish can scratch easily against abrasive surface. They are ergonomically sound as well - I cannot be more happy with this purchse. These chairs completed by patio!

5Strathwood Bar Chairs and Table  Jun 27, 2009
By Gary
Best value for the $ spent. Chairs & table were easy to assemble. We use this set on our deck and the chairs seat you up high enough that you can look straight out and see the view, unlike other chairs that are so low that you only see the deck railing.

4Nice intimate table and chairs  May 09, 2010
By Tim Woody
We bought this table and chairs to sit on our deck and enjoy the view onto the lake. It is sturdy and well made. It required some assembly with some wooden pegs requiring a rubber or wooden mallet to keep from marring the material. All tools were otherwise provided with the furniture. The wood has resisted the weather so far, including some heavy thunderstorms. I am pleased with this purchase. A great place for our morning coffee on a spring day.
