4Product Description is not accurate  Apr 09, 2009
By J. Myers
I will preface this by saying that none of the items below make it a bad product, I think it will be fine, it's just that the description is inaccurate.

1) The backboard is acrylic, not polycarbonate.
2) The frame is steel, not aluminum.

Both of these things may be important to buyers because polycarbonate is a superior material to acrylic, and aluminum (obviously) won't rust over time as the (painted) steel frame may.

I am disappointed that it was not what it was represented to be because I thought I was getting more for my money than I really did. In the end it will be fine and we will enjoy it, but it is still frustrating.

2Poor quality - First one arrives broken, second one falls apart  Jun 14, 2009
By Daniel Druker "- Dan"
The first one of these I received was broken - the clear acrylic backboard sheet (like plexiglass) was broken in one corner, and was scratched in several other places.

Amazon sent a replacement, which was in better shape.

On both of them, the actual backboard material is much thinner than I expected - it looks like 1/4 inch clear plexiglass type material. I was expecting something much thicker and more robust. overall fit and finish was poor on both the original unit they sent as well as the replacement - the paint on the backboard itself and on the frame were both poorly applied.

The rim seems to be much better quality than the backboard and frame.

To add insult to injury, after being up for about four months, (in our relatively mild California climate) the backboard Plexiglass came unglued from the frame. Fixable, but a big pain.

Net is poor quality, twice over...

4Great looking, great price.  Aug 08, 2008
By Steven D. Wheeler "Steve"
I bought this backboard to replace a broken portable unit I was given. It fit great. The backboard is very nice looking, and gives a decent amount of bounce to the ball.(Not glass, but for $199.00 very good.) The item arrived very quickly.(I chose free shipping from Amazon.) There was a missing backboard pad. I called Spalding and they got the part out right away. I would purchase from Spalding again.

5Great Backboard, Looks great too  Jun 16, 2008
By Noah Collins "NoCo"
So far its a perfect backboard, I've only had it a couple weeks. It is the nicest looking backboard I see around and the construction of it seems sturdy. Most consumer backboards are only braced in the middle this has an aluminum frame as well bracing in the center, which is crucial for response on bank shots. Definitely happy with the backboard and would definitely recommend to anyone.

I have it mounted with a 'Spalding Basketball System Converter' (adjustable mount) which is a little wobbly but no fault of the backboards.

No brainer, buy it. Worry about your mounting system.

5Works great, looks good, six year old approved!  Sep 23, 2011
By David Quick "Free Soda Drinker"
My kids (6 & 10) love the new backboard and rim - we put it on an adjustable mount that allows it to move from 7'6" to 10' and they are using it every day since it went up. The whole unit is sturdy and was easy to put together. We got our at the local sports store but this is the exact model we ended up with - it was just easier to sneak out and back and hide it until I was able to put it up the morning of his birthday by going to the local store. ;-)
