5Great HDTV for games  Dec 21, 2010
By Frank Provo
I'm cheap, I play a fair number of video games, and I love to tweak my TV settings to be as "accurate" as possible using reference images and calibration discs. The Samsung P2370HD exceeded my expectations (especially once I noticed an alternative way to fix the HDMI "blurring" issue others have mentioned).

Right out of the box, color accuracy and black/white level are close to perfect. Like most TV's these days, settings for edge enhancement and dynamic contrast are on by default. Disabling those settings and dialing down the brightness 5 ticks put the grays, blacks, and whites where they needed to be. The only annoyance for me, and it's a minor one, is that the backlight is still brighter than I'd like even on its lowest setting. That's not a problem in a room with any light, but you do notice the glimmer in pitch dark.

Game lag isn't an issue with this TV. If you use a digital camera to take photos of certain reference tests, you'll notice some frame drops here and there. In actual play with my own human eyes, I'm able to pull off precise combos in Super Street Fighter 4 and Tekken 6 without problems. There is a "game mode" option in the setup menu that reduces the frame drops; at least, according to my digital camera; but I can't actually discern any difference when my own hands/eyes are involved.

Many people have complained about blurry, overly sharp edges and text when using the HDMI input. The popular solution is to change the name of the input in the source list to read "PC." This works, but you lose access to some very handy image and color adjustments, as well as the game mode toggle. You also end up with a gamut of gray shades, which can make the image seem soft (although some people prefer it).

An alternative solution is to go into the Picture Options menu and change the "Size" setting from 16:9 to Screen Fit. By default, the P2370HD stretches and clips about 2 to 3% of the image from the HDMI source for overscan. The Screen Fit option enables 1 to 1 pixel mapping, just like changing the name of the HDMI input does, but it leaves you able to access the whole range of picture adjustments.

It makes sense when you think about it: Samsung's engineers probably figured if you're hooking a PC up to it, you can make all of the display-related tweaks you need to in the computer's display panel.

Regardless of how you choose to make the HDMI input look nicer, you'll enjoy how your games look on this TV. The colors are pure, the details just pop, and there's absolutely no "ghosting." Oh, and if you're watching actual TV, I can vouch that the off-air decoder inside this TV is very strong. Much stronger than the 42" Vizio in my living room.

5Fix The HDMI-HDMI "Screen Looks Awful" Problem  Dec 03, 2010
By Chaz In Montana
Hey All, Just thought I'd post a quick "how to" here on fixing a serious image problem when you use an HDMI cable from your PC to drive the P2370HD (or any other Samsung TV) as a computer monitor. When first hooked up, text appears to be surrounded by some white border, and it looks like heck. The Fix is very simple.

On the TV Menu, scroll down to the "Source List", arrow over ">" so Source List is highlighted, now arrow down "V" so "Edit Name" is highlighted, now arrow over again ">" to see the list, scroll down to highlight "HDMI", arrow over ">", now scroll to select either the "PC" or "DVI PC" options instead of the "--" option, Ta Daaaaaaaaaaa, press "Exit" on your remote. Your monitor should look mucho better.

This TV/Monitor Rocks by the way! Love it! Buy It!

5Great for use as both a TV and Computer Monitor!  Aug 03, 2010
By Kari Skinner
I bought this tv on sale at Costco a couple of months ago. I LOVE it. I'm a college kid and just rent a room from someone, so this is the only tv I have and works perfect for everything I need.
I love hooking it up to my macbook pro (the back of the tv has a built in computer vga cable input) and using it for streaming things from the internet, or just to have some extra desktop space while doing big graphic design projects.
The picture quality is great - clear, bright colors.
The sound isn't just incredible, but is great for a small TV. I'm considering getting some external speakers though for when I want to boost the bass - but the built in speakers do the job well and are plenty loud for everyone in the room to hear (I NEVER have to turn it up all the way).
The interface for switching between Computer/TV/Wii works great - I enjoy the menu gui that is semi-transparent while still showing whatever you have playing behind it.
Aesthetically speaking, this is a beautiful machine... I adore the red "rose black" color with the clear see-through framing (and pedestal) around it - very fun.
Overall I highly recommend this TV. Perfect size for dorm/kitchen/bedroom use, and not so small that you couldn't use it in the living room if you want to have a nice quality tv on a lower budget.

4Excellent Monitor  Aug 26, 2011
By king fireman "you can get it"
This is a excellent monitor, I'm using it as my PC Monitor and also sometimes when I go to my house in the mountains I connect it direclty to the satellital cable and DVD... nice for both.

The reason why I'm giving it only 4 stars is because if you have a TV Samsung near, the tv control signal also affect the monitor so if somebody will turn on or off the TV you will be a little upset because the same action will happen with your Monitor too. I dont know if there is a firmware available that can correct this issue.

4Oooh, pretty picture...AUGH, my NECK!  Jul 12, 2011
By Sue
I've had the Samsung P2370HD for about a month, and I'm currently using it as a monitor. I do graphic and web design, and a lot of writing, and it had a beautiful display right out of the box. I've since tweaked the controls a bit, and I'm really pleased.

CONS:

1. The stand design is AWFUL! It won't budge an inch, and I have to slouch down in my chair to have a straight-on view. If I sit in front of the computer for more than 2 or 3 hours without moving, I end up with neck ache. While it's a pretty significant quibble, it can be mitigated by a platform, and I'd much rather have this machine than the migraine-inducing monitor it replaced.

2. For some reason, it doesn't always recognize that my computer is sending it a signal to process. I often have to turn the monitor off and on 2-3 times before it gets the message. I've learned to boot up my computer about 30 seconds prior to turning on the monitor, and - so far - that seems to work.

3. If you're interested in this model for use as a TV, all connections are in the back, so wall mounting it is out of the question. Personally this isn't a concern for me, but it's something to think about.

It is better than my old monitor? Absolutely, and for the price, I think I can afford to spring for a platform. If it continues to be temperamental with regard to recognizing the incoming signal, I'll report back and adjust my rating.

The picture, though, is spectacular, and does what I need it to do. If you can work around terrible stand design and back-only access to connections, I would heartily recommend this one.
