5BEST ALL AROUND ENTERTAINMENT MONITOR OF 2010!!!!!  Dec 12, 2010
By TRONXL
First I think this monitor deserved a better score than three and half stars from cnet.com. Eric Franklin always does this wobble movement test on monitors. I understand that a monitor needs to not only feel like it is made of high quality materials, but unless you live in a high earthquake area or have a lot of children running around knocking over stuff. I don't think he should take away from the monitor by hitting the side of it to test the movement of the monitor. I don't think people plan on knocking over there monitors. In the review he did for the HP w2408h he criticized the monitor's rotating feature because the picture did not rotate. First your PC, laptop or internet device has to have this feature or be able to use that feature for the picture to rotate. So I would say the monitor was not hooked up to a device capable of that. Most monitors don't rotate anyway or at least most people use regular monitors that may only lean forward, back, turn left and right or raise up and down. Even though the Samsung FX2490HD does not raise up and down and only tilts back a little and not that much forward, most people aren't going to be looking at a monitor from the floor or ceiling. Plus if that is the case a lot of monitors can be wall mounted like most HDTV's. I don't like the fact that he knocks it for not having a DVI connection. I understand that most PC gamers need this to view their games at a higher quality, but most HDTVs, monitors even PC's or laptops, cameras, and other various electronics that use cables require you to purchase higher quality cables to get the best picture or video possible anyway. And sure some eletronics include the cables or connections that people want but most don't have everything included. And also some PC's DVI output often do not support HDMI audio so the owner of the PC would have to buy an extra cable or adapter anyway.
I DID NOT see any green tent or color when watching a HD DVD, Blu-Ray DVD & DVD movie during playback! And that was before I decided to mess with the calibration options on this monitor. And with almost any HDTV/Monitor or video/picture type electronics the user often with have to calibrate it to their liking so I don't see how this monitor could be knocked for that.
My Cons: The design of the Samsung FX2490HD is very slim and styish, but the design also makes this monitor appear smaller than other 24in monitors in it's class even though it is a 24in monitor that is larger than most stock monitors that people purchase.
Here is the monitor page as well as the Full Spec sheet page info: [...]
One fact is that the correct Full Resolution is: 1920x1080p not 1920x1440 and the correct Dynamic Contrast Ratio is:5,000,000:1 not 1,000,000:1
I confirmed this through a chat session on the Samsung website and through looking at the real Spec sheet, which I put a link up for this in my pros section for this monitor. My experience with this monitor so far has been Excellent. I couldn't ask for a better monitor!

5Brand New Toy! FX2490HD  Jan 06, 2011
By Jeremiah Fleming "Neuro"
I spent a long time browsing the web searching for the perfect Monitor/TV combo and could never find a product that excelled at both functions. Finally i stumbled upon this beauty. Once amazon had it back in stock (which saved me tax, shipping and the CA recycling fee) i ordered the FX2490HD. It arrived 2 days later and boy was i happy.

As other reviewers have said, right out of the box the color needs a bit of tweaking. Not too hard and definitely worth it to get a beautiful picture. Honestly looks better than the 50" Samsung at home. The PIP is a bit out of the way, but still a nice feature to have. I love the multimedia USB port and haven't found the viewing angles to be too bad, but i'm not picky about that. Haven't found anything i'm unhappy with, but an included HDMI cable would have been nice. Can't get everything i want i guess, but other than that i can truly say i am impressed and very satisfied with the product.

A good buy in my opinion, especially from Amazon.

5An awesome, low-priced all-in-one TV Monitor of high-end quality  Dec 26, 2010
By Edinjazz
I have just got my new Samsung FX2490HD 24-Inch HDTV LED Monitor (Brown) up and running and what can I say - its KILLING! The picture quality in TV, browsing, Netflix, and such is stunning - it has tons of adjustable parameters, much more customizable and much more vivid, than most, or all monitor-TVs of its class - in few words, just amazing! The PIP is a treat too. I didn't even try movies yet so I believe its gonna be really beautiful - I want to buy a blu-ray player as well so I can't imagine how good its gonna look on this monitor. I am sure there are gonna be enough people out there finding stuff to complain about - this is missing, and that is not in the right part of the menu, and this is uncomfortable, but bottom line is, in my opinion - unless you're a pro working with visual content, such as pro-video and more so pro-photo editing, you're not gonna see much difference between this and $1000 + monitors. Whoever got it, enjoy! Whoever is considering to get it, get it and enjoy!

4Nice monitor, it does what I wanted it to do, but pricey.  Dec 08, 2011
By secret
The monitor works well for what it does. It functions well enough as a monitor, although the text can be a little fuzzy. The TV part is beautiful and it auto-senses inputs very well and very quickly so all in all, I'm satisfied, it was just a little pricey for it's size.

5Great Looking TV. Works Good Too  May 20, 2011
By alnval
I'll leave the techie stuff to others. What I wanted was a good up-to-date TV that was easy to install and even easier to use and that's what I got in this Samsung FX2490HD 24" LED MFH Monitor. The only heartburn I had was finding it on the Amazon website. I think that's because I kept asking to look at TVs and didn't know that it was listed under `Monitors." I think I finally read a review someplace that mentioned it as a TV and I never looked back. Don't let the "Monitor" handle fool you. This is really a great TV.

We watch TV almost exclusively in the family room and bought this 12 pound, 24" Samsung to replace a 10 year old, 55 pound 20" Toshiba. We're not into `big` and we didn't buy a TV to hang on the wall because that's what paintings are for. So the new TV stands on a table where the old TV had been between the piano and the fireplace facing the sofa and the La-Z-Boy. Oh, and we also like the TV's dark maroon/brown frame.

After you open the box, the most important directions are on a separate piece of paper that explains how to attach the pedestal the TV stands on to the TV itself. After that all you need to do is to hook the TV up to your antenna and turn it on. (Don't worry about the removable back. After you hook the TV up to your antenna and power source, put the back back on. It looks good and helps keep the wires tidy and the area under the back dust free.)

The user manual that comes with the TV is important but the on-screen instructions are so clear that you only occasionally have to refer back to the manual if you want to make sure you're doing it right. The user manual can also be a pain. The light grey print on white paper is hard to read. You need good eyes and plenty of light.

If you have cable you can train your cable remote to turn the Samsung TV on and off. (The code that worked for me was 10812.) The cable remote then changes the cable channels and does all the other cable type stuff. The remote that comes with the TV is simplicity itself. There's a single button for picture size, one for sound quality, and one for closed captions. The green menu button on the TV remote gets you back to the menus that are displayed on the TV. Play with all of the buttons until you're happy. You can't hurt anything.

As to worries about having to adjust color balance, whether the pedestal is sturdy enough etc., forget about them. The defaults (color, sound etc.) are good but they were also easy to change to suit our needs. We prefer the sound produced by the "clear voice" choice. And, even though our cable TV sends us a picture that is 4:3 we've found that basketball games, soccer and even tennis are more fun to watch if the picture size is 16:9.

Hooking up your DVD player is also easy. Once you turn on your DVD player and install a disc the Samsung TV senses the new signal and automatically puts it on the TV screen. If your DVD player has an HDMI port you can hook it up to either of the two HDMI ports on the TV. If the player doesn't have an HDMI port you can hook it up via the red/white/yellow connector cables that are included in the Samsung TV box. (I don't remember now whether it was necessary to first tell the TV via the onscreen menu that the DVD player was hooked up to one of the HDMI ports. For all I know, the TV might have done it automatically without my worrying about it.) There is one problem, however. Samsung does NOT include an HDMI high speed cable connector with the TV. You've got to buy that separately. Mediabridge sells a good one.

Try it. You'll like it.
