MARTHASA Jul 27, 2010
By DanielJ As the other review said the monitor does not look good over vga, but on dvi/hdmi this monitor looks awesome. It is very easy to calibrate with the included software but one thing I would not do is turn on dynamic contrast because this is a cclf monitor it does not do it well. Over all it is a great monitor and since most computers and laptops either have a dvi or hdmi connection the problem with vga is not that big of a deal.

Ok monitor but only at the right price. Aug 17, 2010
By BilgeBoy I've been using this monitor for a few months with business related applications, web browsing, DVD watching and the occasional game. It's being driven by the VGA and HDMI ports. Pro: Overall, image quality and performance is good. It's bright, crisp and has reasonable color saturation across the entire screen. Physical setup was easy. Configuration was ok. Con: There is some bleed through across the entire screen and especially near the edges. It's noticeable at startup but the monitor's high contrast and brightness soon make this unnoticeable in most applications except movies where the shadow areas suffer a bit. The provided stand is useless. It's allows the monitor to constantly bob around placing a strain on the eyes after 20 minutes. It's also short. I added a 3M stand that improves it greatly but is still not as stabile as other monitors (HP, Dell) The configuration software is nice if it would stay running. Installed on two XP systems and it fails to run properly. So I use the soft-touch buttons on the monitor base. The soft-touch buttons aren't user friendly. If the rooms not lit up, it's difficult to find the right finger position.
Overall, if you can find this for under $200 it would be a good value. Otherwise I'd look elsewhere.

Very nice monitor at a very nice price Dec 05, 2010
By moose_of_many_waters I don't have a TV - no cable and my location is too remote for reception over the air - but I do have DSL and I needed a monitor to watch programs/movies over the web and via the DVD drive on my laptop. I used to use a 19" Hitachi LCD monitor, which was kind of small. This 23" Samsung is perfect for temporarily plunking down on my coffee table and getting a nice big picture on my couch.
The Samsung was a snap to set up. It comes with both DVI and VGA cables. I plugged the DVI cable directly into my MacBook Pro laptop output and the monitor worked like a champ right out of the box. The screen is sharp and the color is true to life. You can make adjustments to the video fairly easily, although the controls are not completely intuitive (the manual was helpful). The text is sharp, sharp enough that my wife and I can work on the NY Times crossword together on the couch (geeky I know, but that's us!).
The downside of this monitor is that the warranty is one year (some Samsungs come with three-year warranties). Also the stand, while very stable, is not at all adjustable. If you want to raise up the monitor a couple of inches, you need to use a book or two. All in all, I'm very pleased with this monitor, especially with its high quality image. I found a coupon online that got the price down to what you'd spend for an Acer or Asus. I consider this thing to be a bargain.

Fantastic and inexpensive monitor Dec 26, 2010
By W. Supernor I bought this for [...] at CostCo, which included (I believe) a [...] "automatic rebate." I have it hooked to an older model Dell laptop with a docking station that has a DVI connector. I was a bit concerned about the folks who gave the lower ratings, but it all seemed based on the VGA connection. I used the supplied DVI cable and the picture looks, in a word, fantastic. Note that I did NOT install any drivers or applications from the supplied CD. This laptop is running Windows XP, and my experience has been that XP handles flat panel monitors pretty well on its own. The machine initially booted up at its old resolution of 1280x1024, but in the time that it took me to clean up the packaging debris, XP recognized that the monitor supported a higher resolution, and it automatically reset for the full 1920x1080. When I connected to Windows Update later in the day, it found an updated driver for the display, and it continued to work just fine after that was installed. So again: unless you have some need for precise color matching or whatever that apparently problematic "calibration software" is for, I would not even pull the CD out of the envelope.
With regard to the quality of the display: The colors appear distinct and even fine text is VERY sharp with excellent contrast. I am using this monitor for creating training documents (mainly Word and Powerpoint) and it is perfect. I can easily have a Word doc opened on one side of the screen and a Powerpoint on the other and work very effectively.
I see some have commented on the quality of the stand - I am not using the stand, but am instead am using the VESA 75 connector on the back connected to a wall-mount bracket that I bought on Amazon for $29.99 - the "VideoSecu Articulating TV Wall Mount for 22" - 37" VESA 200 100 LED LCD TV Monitor Full Motion Bracket 3V7". I realize that is a seperate review, but that bracket is a very sturdy (and attractive) beast and handles this monitor EASILY, and clears up desk clutter.
I would definitely buy this product again.
SWEET MONITOR Apr 20, 2012
By GunLover49 Its just great. It is difficult to locate the touch sensitive power button in a dark room, so I just taped a little white paper circle so I can cut if off in my computer room without turning on the lights first! The monitor itself is just great, I play games on it and it is very clear, high performance, bright colors, low glare, and you just can't beat it for the money. I highly recommend this monitor! It doesn't get any better!
