This TV was purchased to meet the needs of a tech savvy college student. It has a plethora of inputs to make it a versatile HDTV/Monitor. This TV also has excellent quality in other departments.
In the visual department, the 1080p quality is phenomenal. I haven't tested anything below Full HD because I don't have anything at those resolutions unless I dumb down the resolution. At the default settings, the picture quality is crisp and detailed. It also has a response time of 5ms which allows for quick movements in video games. Picture-in-Picture also makes a return on this Samsung model, and it works as expected.
Onto the Audio Department, I at first experienced volume issues but I soon realized that the issue was not with the B2230HD, but with the volume settings on the computer that was hooked up. So make sure that you have all the volume settings at max on your equipment if your testing your set-ups audio. The TV also has different audio settings that tailor to what your are watching. For example, if you are watching a presidential speech and the background is a little loud, go into the easy access tools menu and change the audio settings to speech and the persons voice will be amplified from the background. For the size of the TV, the audio is awesome.
As an avid gamer, I am very pleased with this TV. 9.8/10

I had the opportunity to do a side by side between this and a 22" Vizio E220VA viewing a few different stations all in HD and one in SD. While the difference in SD was slight, HD was very noticeable!
Low and behold, the Vizio excelled in the picture quality department. Samsung is one of the most popular, if not the most popular LCD TV manufacture (notice I didn't say LED TV), but to my surprise Vizio outperformed in the detail department.
Facial detail is lacking. Graphics and text is outstanding, but take a look at the detail on peoples faces or anything closeup and it gives the 'clay faces' look. Almost like the video was 'rolled off' only under certain circumstances. Really hard to describe this, but it was very noticeable.
I also have a 32" Samsung (not a TN panel like this) and the above holds true there also. That was my second LCD set (I have and have DLP RPTV's as my main sets) and just thought it was something that was typical of LCD TV's until I made this side by side.
Pros;
1. 1080p panel, ideal for PC displays, but see below
2. Able to store channel memories for both OTA & CATV channels without deleting a previous channel list Why can't all manufactures do this??
3. Easy mode switch from 'Air' to 'Cable',
4. Unlike their non Business line of smaller sets, this has separate composite and component inputs. You don't give up one for the other,
5. Also unlike their 5000 regular TV series, this has no stupid, cost cutting 'adapter' cable dongle for the component/composite input, which is a huge source of problems (see the reviews of those sets here on Amazon),
6. Extensive menu entries for video & audio including ISF calibration for video & equalizer for audio,
7. Front mounted controls,
8. Easy to assemble stand, but see below,
9. Nice laid out remote (a cut above most in this size & price class),
10. Earphone out (might power a 4 ohm pair of speakers, but not any 8 ohm pair),
11. Fair audio. Not good, but not 'tinny' like some others,
12. Separate video setting memories for each input.
Cons,
1. As stated, fine detail (facial for example) somewhat lacking in detail,
2. Only one RF input. Two memories, one input; real brains here,
3. Stand supposedly does tilt, but you would never know it,
4. CCFL backlight uses slightly more power than LED driven backlight,
5. Narrow vertical viewing angle (as all of these under 32" sets have due to the use of cheaper TN panels).
6. With Samsung, one has to run the contrast almost full to 'drive' the video for the best image. Very little room to increase it more. (Most by default are set to half or 3/4 way, not 95 out of a 100 setting),
7. Using this as a PC monitor (like most sets that have tuners) usually takes some finesse depending on the O/S you are using and your video card & driver (but at least it's not a 720).

 Great monitor but minor backlight bleed Dec 20, 2011

I ordered this primarily as a computer monitor with the option of adding TV to it at some point. It looks great now, but for some reason the default settings on VGA leave you with 'edge enhancement' and no 'auto-off when none of the inputs have a signal', so if you have one of these monitors I recommend a thorough examination of the settings. Settings are input-specific, so you may find yourself redoing them and, as a definite downside, sometimes things are not adjustable while an input is selected(e.g. backlight has been fixed for some inputs). To itemize my thoughts, there's the following:
Pros:
1)Picture in picture lets you have tv in a little box on your monitor - you can e-mail through advertisements without switching back or missing a beat
2)Fast refresh rate, 5ms response, 1920x1080, crisp and clean picture, and good color/brightness control options
3)"Eco Solution" screen settings measured at the outlet, mostly white on the screen:
-9.5 watts in 'picture off/audio only' mode
-26 watts off, bright
-21 watts low setting, pretty bright
-19 watts medium setting, dimmer
-17 watts high setting, even dimmer
4)Sleep timer (combines particularly well with picture-off mode on audio-only channels, but see cons #5)
5)Settings are saved in whichever picture mode you adjusted them, so you can have a few presets for each input.
6)Good price for the quality(particularly good if on sale)
7)Tool-free assembly
Cons:
1)Only one adjustment on the stand; tip the screen back or forward - no height, rotation, or side-tilt.
2)Backlight bleed is sometimes apparent at the top and bottom. It seems that this may be related not only to brightness settings but also which input is selected, my thoughts are that the backlight is actually above maximum when you select some inputs which do not let you adjust it.
3)Bad default settings including but not limited to edge detect.
4)Some settings are not adjustable depending on input
5)If your vga input uses sleep mode instead of screen saver the audio pass-through stops
Conclusion: The backlight bleed is often negligible after settings alteration, but definitely helped take off a good portion of one star. There's nothing else seriously wrong with this monitor and Samsung got a bunch of things right - this was an amazing deal at $220 and 5-star at that price. In need of a replacement I would still lean towards this if I looked at the $300 range, but this is probably a 4.5-star device when it is in with the other $300 options.
Given the choice between the cash and one of these, my older brother looked at this and asked Santa for one of his own.

Very conveniant 2 in 1 (computer monitor and television). Be careful, the holes for the wall fixation might not have their threads to receive the screws. Otherwise, I am still very pleased with this product.

Very good Monitor May 26, 2011

I love the matte(anti-glare) and the picture in picture feature. Very easy to install, I just plug in to my laptop and Window detected the hardware. The monitor is very sharp. The picture in picture feature is great. I am able to watch TV shows while working on the computer. With this monitor, I can use the laptop screen and this monitor screen at the same time, basically I can put much more things on the screens. Especially useful for seeing multiple documents and doing copy & paste.
There are few minor con for this monitor.
1. The USB plug is on the back instead of on the side.
2. There is no height adjustment on the stand.
3. auto scan for TV signals took long time, 20-25 minutes. I have the same problem with Samsung TV as well. If a channel lost its signal, I have to redo the scanning process. I am not able to just add one channel. Samsung has this issue for years.
