5Surprising stereo  Mar 07, 2008
By Richard Reynolds "SWNovice"
After much research and an extremely limited budget, I got what I wanted in a car stereo. The problem? I replaced a Pioneer I hated with a new Pioneer. Unfortunately, it was the only one of any quality that offered the features I wanted. My wants are simple. I wanted a great tuner because I enjoy both FM and AM radio. I wanted a great CD player because I have a ton of great music and finally, I wanted a stereo that easily plays Ipod's. So, I had to spring for a little extra equipment. It was worth it.

It's been all of 24 hours and so far, I am thrilled. The sound seems sharper and cleaner. The lows are deep and clean, the highs sharp and crisp. Most surprising of all is that the imaging is much better than the old system and it had an imaging feature that allowed you to adjust that for yourself. (My old stereo was fine. It was the CD player. It wouldn't eject and was a problem all along. Otherwise, I was very happy with it). The radio is everything I expected it to be and even more. What was always great is now just plain amazing.

The controls are very different and a bit disconcerting, but that's just a matter of getting used to it. I found that using the included remote control is actually simpler than trying to manipulate the controls on the stereo itself. Like I said, though, I have yet to learn it.

My car is a big, noisy van, so the most useful and appreciated feature is the EQ with six preset curves. It makes it so much easier to hear, especially when listening to talk radio or the news. Voices are sharp and clear when set to the "voice" setting. Like most new systems, it puts a lot of emphasis on bass control and input, but it is not forced on you. It is there if you need it, but if you don't like you Dylan with extra boom, you don't have to have it. I love that. The EQ also allows you to create your own curves and saves them, as well.

So far, I am very impressed. I'll write another review if I change my mind, or learn anything noteworthy.

5A system that can grow with you..  May 26, 2008
By John T. Hatfield "John Tom"
I just want to say that I love this system and this is my first pioneer system. I just want to point out it will play with ANY Mp3 player and not just IPOD's. So don't go waste your money on a IPOD If you already got a mp3 player, alot of review sites fell to metion that making IPOD the center of attention. I have a Creative 2GB so it works and sounds great. Also it sounds great on my factory speakers but, getting ready to upgrade them to make it sound better. As for the controls...It does takes time to get used to but, thank god for the manual. The remote does help lots while driving. As for options, It has so many options that you will be there for every for the right sound for you and that is a good thing :).

5Cheap and effective  Jan 09, 2011
By Patrick E. Meyers
I've had this unit for two or three years now, and I have no complaints. I almost exclusively run my ipod through the back and use the DEH-P400UB to control my songs/playlists as opposed to the tuner. Xovers, bass boost, EQ, subwoofer control... It does exactly what I want it to at a very reasonable price.

4quality radio  May 30, 2010
By Amanda Dudden
I bought this particular model because I wanted a radio with a usb port and an aux port to easily play music. The usb port is in the back of the radio and has a long cable. You will need to drill a hole so the cable can come drop down and come out from under the radio. Thats the only inconvenience but it can be easily done. The aux port is on the face of the radio. I've had this product over a year now. I have a 10" jl speaker in a ban pass box. When I got this radio it greatly improved the sound quality in my truck. I'm very pleased with this product and its multiple sources available for playing music.

I do wish it read the usb more like a computer though. What I mean by that is, it seems to sort the files by modified date and not alphabetical order. Its also not as convenient to search music by usb as it is by say an ipod. But I dont have an ipod and use a usb to play my music. I still enjoy it and think its a great product.
