only teether she used Feb 22, 2010
By Nicole Clayton My daughter started teething at about 3.5 months... She wouldn't use any of the other plastic teethers we gave her - even if they were chilled, or frozen. She refused them. About a month later, I found this at BabiesRUs, and am eternally grateful. This is the one and only teether she used until those pesky teeth came in a few weeks ago (6 months). It's a softer plastic. I don't know how to really describe it. Most teethers have this nasty plastic that's thick and hard to even get the mouth around. This one is well shaped, easy to chew on, and has little bumps on it to massage the gums. Best teether yet.

Great for little gums but...[UPDATED 03/10] Feb 18, 2010
By Rhianna Walker
"Rhi"
My wee one isn't quite teething yet but she's hit a stage where everything goes in the mouth and gets gummed on. Naturally this means we want toys around for her that she can grab onto, hold easily and that won't hurt her gums or the teeth she will eventually get. This terrific teether meets those three needs nicely. The cute seahorse design is attractive but simple making it easy for my baby to grip and put in her mouth. Unfortunately, she doesn't care for the texture of the teether! She doesn't seem to mind it in her mouth but she doesn't like the way it feels in her hand and when she'll hold other toys she immediately lets go of this one. I've also found that because it's a brushed rubbery surface cat hair, people hair and lint cling to it like crazy. It need much more frequent rinsing than other toys we've tried. As long as you and your baby don't mind that factor I really do think this is a great product and look forward to seeing it in action when the teeth finally do decide to start cutting.
Now if only they'd make a couple more colors and designs...
UPDATE: Teething has finally begun in earnest! But I can now say (through shock and awe) that this teether is amazing! Once she got comfortable holding the unusual texture (as mentioned above) my little one began using this teether without much encouragement from me. It is now her favorite and I have to make sure it goes everywhere with us. At 5 months she has a canine coming in which is really giving her a hard time as a first tooth but this teether is definitely helping out with the discomfort. I'll probably have to buy a second one to keep in the diaper bag in case we forget it on an outing.

LOVE this teether! Feb 26, 2010
By Gadget Girl Our daughter started teething about a month ago and we've been going through a LOT of different teethers. The Philips Avent animal teether is great! It is made of a soft "silicone" like plastic, well shaped for early teethers with little hands and a harder time hanging on to things. Our daughter is 4 months old and it is easy for her to hold and provides relief for teething pian. I love that it is BPA free and easy to clean. I have no idea what kind of animal this is supposed to be but of course our daughter does not seem to mind! UPDATE: At 9 months of age this is still one of my daughter's favorite teethers.

Just OK as a teether... Aug 29, 2011
By Allyson We ordered several teethers for my son and this one was just OK. He never really took to it that much. I think it's a bit akward and he sucked on the end of the 'nose' a bit, but it didn't seem to ease his teething pain. It's made of a material similar to Sophie the Giraffe.
We actually preferred the MAM teething ring to the Avent. Mam Bite and Brush Teether, 3 Months, Colors May Vary He uses the MAM ring all of the time. It was much easier for him to hold and the bristles really seemed to soothe his gums better than any other teether we tried. Next time, I would just get two MAMs--one for home and one for the diaper bag--and not purchase the Avent.

Good product, but I believe there is a better alternative out there... Jan 12, 2012
By JC This is a good product. However, in my opinion, there is another teether that is similar to this one but is overall a better product. That other product is this one: Lifefactory 2 Pack Multi Sensory Silicone Teether, Sky/Spring Green
Here's why (+ = pros, - = cons):
Philips Teether:
+ BPA free + Can cool in refrigerator - Instructions read: "NEVER clean the teether in the dishwasher - Instructions read: "Do not use antibacterial cleaning agents" (our dishwashing soap is antibacterial) +/- Made in Malaysia (In my opinion better than made in China, but still would rather be made in USA) + Slightly cheaper than the LifeFactory teether
LifeFactory Teether:
+ BPA free + Dishwasher Safe (says so on the package, top-rack only) + Made in the USA (big plus in my opinion) + Can cool in refrigerator + Has more varying textures on it than the Philips teether - Slightly more expensive (note that the LifeFactory is sold in pairs)
So, both are great teethers, but in my opinion the LifeFactory teether is worth the extra couple of bucks as it is made in USA and has easier cleaning instructions. Can't go wrong with either though. Good luck with your babies! :)
