My favorite part is the packaging Jun 26, 2008
By Joe'sMom Not sure what more I can say about Legos. They've been around forever, are durable, colorful, and spark hours of creative, imaginative play. With my son, we started him on Primos I think they're called (the largest size legos), then moved to Duplos, now this is his first set of regular sized legos.
What I like best about this particular set is the bucket they come in. It's like a big tupperware with a snap on lid. The lid is a little too difficult for my 3 year old to take off by himself (which I actually like, because it means I can control not having the entire bucked dumped out all over the floor). The bucket is much bigger than required to hold the contents that come with this package. This is great because we have "extra" legos that we are able to store all together. We still have legos that my husband played with as a child. We took them out and dumped them all together in this bucket and all is good!
This set comes with the regular square and rectangular sized leggos, plus a window, a door, some snap together flowers and a snap together person. It comes with a little booklet of ideas on building houses, flower gardens, a snail, etc. It does have some of the smallest size lego pieces... so watch out around really young children.

Beware False Information Aug 24, 2010

I don't know if Amazon moved reviews for other Lego sets to this product page, or if some reviewers simply lied, but I bought this item based on what other customers had to say & they were very mistaken.
For instance, there are NO "boy 'pieces' like steering wheels, tires, etc., to make cars, etc."
I knew Legos are smaller than Duplos, but these are mostly the very small Lego pieces...and there are just enough pieces to cover the bottom of the box, but not even an inch thick layer. I knew that there would be room in the box for extra sets, but this would make a horrible gift unless it was accompanied by at least one other set.
My 4 yr old had no problem manipulating the pieces -- even the tiny ones like eyes, and he could follow most of the building ideas just by looking at the pictures.
We were able to build (from the booklet included) the house (the front of a house, not a house with four sides), the Lego person, an alligator, a penguin, a snail, and still had pices left over to make an apple tree, a jet, and then some...but everything was small. If we had made a complete house, I don't think we'd have pieces left over for much else.
The "base plate" that is included is a joke: it's just 4-dots by 12-dots, so my son was also given the LEGO Bricks & more Blue Building Plate - 32 x 32 Studs (10" x 10"), which had enough room for all the stuff we made, and the LEGO Cars Building Set (5898), so he would have some wheels etc after all.
My son likes having the large box to keep all the sets together, but please realize the box is what you are paying for, not an abundance of brick pieces.

Great toy! Apr 24, 2009
By Go_UND I purchased this for my 4 year old son who is jsut gettin ginto Legos. He loved the set and I loved the storage box! The lid is impossibly hard to open/close. In fact my son cannot open it by himself (not necessarily bad) - I barely can, and he stands on the top to get it to snap closed. I know one day when I am opening it, legos are gonna fly out everywhere ;) There aren't many pieces in the box compared to the available storage space inside, but leaves more room for future sets. It is the best value for the amount of pieces. There was a good mix of large and small sized legos. I have bought sets in the past that have a high piece count that are mostly the tiniest pieces they make! This isn't like that - this is a great set! If you are buying legos - buy this set! Best value for the money!

Great set! Apr 18, 2008
By c2 Be sure to pick up this set, particularly if you have any of the other sets. You get a few interesting pieces that are not included anywhere else and it has quite a few boy "pieces" like steering wheels, tires, etc., to make cars, etc. You're not getting a ton of bricks in this set, just over 200, but the box they come it is worth the money alone just to have something to store all these Legos. Great, great toy, we combined ours with the larger $25 set and together, they make quite a few items. They make a great race track for Hot Wheels cars too! If you have Duplos at home, these combine quite nicely with them. The boys like the Duplos to build the huge towers and then use these for the bridges and other small stuff. Highly recommend!

Do let the box fool you.... Dec 26, 2007

This is a TINY lego set - I was very disappointed when it came - based on the number of bricks in the set - I was expecting a lot more - but instead the bricks were all really little ones... I'll need another set to build anything substantial.
