5700 Pieces for under Fourty Dollars  Dec 09, 2008
By Beabea
This set of 700 basic lego blocks is a good value. This is a nice set for making buildings, but it does not include wheels for making cars. Of the sets out there, this is one of the more colorful sets with two shades of green and two shades of blue blocks. The golden brick is unique, but it is hardly the reason to buy this. The box works fairly well for storage and can fit under the couch when not in use. As is the case in all of these sets, you get a fair number of smaller 1x1 and 1x2 bricks, but for under fourty dollars you get a lot of bricks. It would be nice if they included some wheels, but you might consider looking at lego dot com to add specific pieces that you like. Also, you might consider buying some used pieces (even dating back to the 1970s) from bricklink dot com.

5It's Basic Lego, What More Can You Say  Jan 28, 2009
By Cindy Thompson
This is a nice set of basic lego bricks. Nice colors, good variety of bricks, golden brick is a nice touch. Please note that this set does NOT have the little extras you might expect, like windows, doors, wheels, windshields, etc. Also no minifigs. Really just your basic bricks, so it's a nice addition to any Lego set, or maybe a first Lego set, but not terribly exciting all on its own. This set does not include any instructions or ideas, except for what's pictured on the box. If you want to see exactly what is included look it up at peeron.com and you can see exactly what bricks are in the set.

My 5-year old son loves this set but we gave it to him along with a couple of pounds of used specialty pieces and some minifigs and car parts so overall it's a good collection of Lego.

5Love My Legos  Feb 24, 2009
By Carol "Noeticae"
This is one of the few sets that is good for girls. Most of the sets are transformers, battleships, monster trucks, etc. Little girls like to build, too.

4a great set of blocks  Feb 07, 2009
By AMR
This is a set of blocks only which is a nice complement to the legos sets with the special pieces and directions. No directions here, the kids are able to create what they want and use their creativity. There are no windows, wheels or figures, just blocks. I bought this at Christmas and the price was [...], which was a good buy for 700 pieces. I am not sure that I would buy it for the current price.

4Legos forever  Jan 24, 2009
By Pat Offerman "Gram4toys"
LEGO 50th Anniversary Building Set The 50th Anniversary set is a great beginner, especially for young, small-motor-skills-challenged fingers. Wish there was a platform piece, but actually forces kids to think 'outside' any box.
