1Stay Away!  Oct 09, 2008
By David A. Stout
The depth reading on this fish finder bounced all over the place. It would jump from 3' to 15' constantly in 10' of water. I would have thought it a fluke but I later learned that two other people I work with had the same problem. Then I learned from a few fishing forums that several other people had this problem. I'm not sure if it's specific to the M#525 or the entire 500 series but no one is complaining about the other Humminbird models. I sent this back and bought a Lowrance X96, problem solved.

2spot humidity  Oct 06, 2008
By Gerardo E. Pombo Vazquez "Mexicanpurchaser"
Once installed the Fish Finder had a humidity spot in the screen. after 7-8 hours disappeared, but I am nervous that happens again.
Other problem, maybe by my fault, it is not possible to convert to metrics, (unbelievable at this time)
"quick-disconnect mounting system" jajaja...
I am not happy with this fish finder. My last Garmin 100 (discontinued) was very good.

5great fishfinder  Apr 30, 2010
By John David Fransen "tikka"
I can't fault this unit....really easy install on my kayak, works like a charm....I have a great range of preferences for my particular usage and it's so entertaining, I sometimes just paddle around just to see whats under me....it's really great!
Has made a big difference to my catch rate and confidence, knowing that I am not sitting over a fishless area trying hard to catch fish that are not there. Great for finding submerged structure as well!
I love it!

2disappointed  Oct 04, 2008
By Kev
I requested that my wife get me this for my birthday. Took it to the lake on a week's vacation late Sept thru early Oct. so I worked with it for more than a week.
-I don't know if I can trust the depth readings. For a while, it was telling me I was in less than a foot of water when I knew it was 2 feet deep. I noticed that there is an offset you can program in to correct how deep you might have it mounted and used that to correct it, but still, why was it so far off? The way I had it mounted it was only a few inches under water. I tried using string with a weight to ck the depth, seemed ok 2 out of 3 times, but 3rd time seemed about a foot off.
-On cool mornings, when some sun would hit it, it fogged up and I couldn't read most of the display. The fog is internal. 15 years ago I bought a Wide-Eye 100 Hummingbird, it didn't fog for years. When it did I contacted Hummingbird tech support, and they said they could fix it but it would have cost more than buying a new unit. So I got the impression from that, that fog is a defect. But the FAQ's at their website say that's just the way it is - when did this change? I always thought that such an electronic device would have been assembled in a humidity controlled assy room so moisture wouldn't get in and fog the display. Maybe that's in the 'good old days' before everything is crap-made in China.

5Great Product for the panfish fisherman!!!  Dec 14, 2009
By Servant "catch-n-eat"
Not sure if my review will weight much to others but this product helps you put fish in the boat. On my last trip out on a local georgia lake, me and a partner were the only two catching fish (well it was a cold fall day and many were leaving because of it). The fish were on the move due to fall lake turnover but we used the Real time sonar window and could see our jigs and the depth of the fish. When the fish moved by the boat we know just how deep they were and could see our jigs so we knew how deep or shalow to go. This fishfinder works great.
