Exceeded My Expectations Feb 12, 2011
By Bitwise The HP 2711x has exceeded my highest expectations. I upgraded from an HP w2207h which I'd had for a few years and was also very happy with it as well. It's still working fine on another computer now. My primary use is for the 2711x is the post processing of photos with Adobe PhotoShop CS5. The monitor is very bright and can be set between 50 to 60 % brightness and 60 and 70 % contrast without any problem and I find the color reproduction to be the best I've seen in this price range. I've found most monitor on display in local retailer set to there highest brightness settings just to achieve the same color impact I'm getting from the 2711x in the mentioned ranges on this monitor. In terms of sharpness it's fantastic the gloss type Bright View screen makes all the difference for me as most other monitors on the market are semi-gloss which I have found detracts from a good image quality when dealing with photos. I use the monitor in a private office environment which allows me control over the ambient lighting in the room so glare is not at all a problem with the bright view screen. The quality of the construction is fine and again is as good as any monitor in this price range. It's LED, it's light weight it has all the connectivity you could really need and its 27 inches. No dead pixels, No stuck pixels, It's worked just fine from the moment I took it out of the box. I'm glad I pick it up and I would recommend it to friends. Blu-Ray play back at 1080P looks great on it as well. I can't imagine anyone being unhappy with the purchase.

Excellent monitor Feb 11, 2011
By Eduardo Cao

The monitor is really looks great and big. True that you can't swivel it much but no real need for most people. Nice and bright with very little difference on picture color difference where you are sitting.
I was imagining a good monitor but this monitor surpassed my exception's by a good margin.
No pixel out of place, no dead pixel, graphics look clean and crisp, LED bright enough that I turned it down to 55.
I have DVI for windows 7 machine and font looks great, but I also have it set up setup through HDMI to OS X MacMini and it looks even more crisp when it comes to the font.
You will have no problems liking this monitor but be warned that its big and at first you may wonder did you really need something this big and if you could have gone with a 24 inch version. I can say without a doubt that as nice as the 24 inch is the extra size will not be a disappointment.
Base is sturdy and easy to setup but if you don't have a good solid desk it will wobble a little if you shake the desk but it will only be a little and it will not fall down. Considering how thin it is this makes sense.
HP has a winner in my eyes when it comes to this monitor.
Games look good and rich in color, movies look very good and black look well black if your doing blu-ray which I am on the PC.

Don't even bother with the non LED 27" monitor Jan 05, 2011
By Tiffany E. Kosa Really quik I just wanted to come on and review this product. Although I've only had it plugged in for a couple hours, iI think I'm 100% satisfied.
No dead pixels, IT's ULTRA THIN!!! It feels like I could hold it in my lap it is so thin and light.
The AC adapter sits outside of the monitor, which I think is its only downfall. I don't particularly like the look of cords, and especially big black boxes. There is no audio jack, or at least I haven't found it.
Set up was easy, it runs cool, I think I've gotten over the need to get a 30" apple cinema display with this monitor. Beautiful!!!
This is my 6th HP minotor. I'm a huge "Bright View" fan. I like my images on the brighter side. The contrasts look excellent. Of course if you aren't a bright monitor fan then you can turn it down. It's good to have the option though. Smooth rendering of text...I plan to buy a second one soon and it's nice to know I can turn these into tv's when I've upgraded my system some day to even bigger monitors as it has an HDMI port.
update ................................. I was a little hasty in my original review. Some thing you should know before you buy this monitor:
1. No speakers or audio at all. Kind of a bummer! I hate dealing with extra equipment. 2. No vesa mount. You will have a really hard time trying to figure out how to mount this on a wall mount. Luckiy it is really light weight and you could I suppose use some reay good double sided take (there's some really good stuff out there) to do the job. 3. Ac adapter on the outside. The kind that 4' PC cord goes into the black box, then an additional 3' power cord with plug on the end. HATE those! I like what apple did with their pc cords where the bulky part stays on the wall. I much prefer that set up. You wont have a nice tidy desk with this monitor. BOOO!!!
............................. I still love it though. I did buy a second one.

Some Challenges for Graphics Artists. Feb 23, 2011
By superactionfunboy In fairness, I just came off of an older 30 inch Dell. Some observations I hope you'll find useful:
-- Very glossy surface. If you're working with dark imagery, you'll struggle. I see my refection more than I see the imagery I'm working with. -- Not height adjustable. I've resorted to shoving books underneath it to get it to a good view height. -- Very poor falloff both the high and low gamma range. At least out of the box. Some tweaking has made it workable, but not ideal for me. -- pretty severe view angle changes. If you're less than 2 feet close to your monitor, you'll see noticeable gamma shifts left/right/up/down.
I Don't hate it though. :) It doesn't suit my needs however, and I wouldn't recommend this to fellow Artists.

Best bang for your Buck! Aug 26, 2011
By ***Zakk***Attack There is a reason why there is only ONE left in STOCK! This monitor ROCKS. I hand picked this baby right out of the back room before Christmas last year (2010) before it even hit the self. The retailer at the time was trying to rid itself from all the old LCD power hungry monitors and didn't display it until they got out most of their floor inventory. But this didn't stop me from inquiring and having them pull the unit from the back room. The only thing better than this monitor last December was the 30" $1000.00 money grubbing Apple, and I hate Apple. So it was a no brainer to pick up $400.00 HP IBM compatible display.
It weighs in stripped at only 10 pounds! And when I say stripped, I mean no stand. It consumes a mere 18 watts an hour as per hooked up to my watt/volt meter. The thin sleek design coupled with a small bezel gives it a real sexy look. The HP design team hit a home run with this piece of art.
Picture quality was just right straight out of the box with NO major adjustments. I think the only thing I did was lower the brightness. If you are some high tech pro designer artist with a PhD in displays, then consider buying that $1000.00 Apple monitor and leave this now $300.00 sub display alone with your nit picky attitude. The color, gamma, contrast, all look right to me and I use CS5, Autocad, and Premier Pro all the time with it and have NO major concerns or issues. I don't sit in a highly bright office or have a big window behind me with the blind open. Yes, this monitor is HIGH GLOSS, but to combat reflections, TURN THE LIGHTS OFF and or don't have anything of major brightness behind it like spotlights, skylights, moonroofs, flashlights, strobelights....you get the PICTURE. I would have preferred a matte finish, but this isn't a major deal breaker.
I am not going to go on about the fact that there are NO dead pixels because that's what is EXPECTED. If there had been any dead pixels, I would have just RETURNED it for another one. So the point of even mentioning this is a waste of time and space. I bring it up in this review because of what others say in their reviews....."there were no dead pixels" Yeah, ya think?
The power switch and other adjustment buttons are on the bottom right. There is a POWER light on the lower front bezel just above the power button. The power light is NOT a touch sensitive button. It is just an INDICATOR that there is POWER to monitor. There is also another power light at the back of monitor which is a small green dot next to the plug.
There are NO SPEAKERS--again, so what! If you want speakers then buy some. This isn't a cheap VIEWSONIC where they added some junk speakers and thrown the pretty design face out the window.
It's got a HDMI connection because it supports 1080! The resolution of this monitor is 1920x1080 and that's why is has HDMI. I have seen other reviews for the smaller monitors that do NOT have HDMI, and well, there is no reason to have HDMI when a monitor does not support the HD resolution of 1080.
The base stand that this monitor sits on is adequate for normal desktop use. It tilts up and down a few degrees and is sturdy enough for what it was designed to do. If you want to mount this display to a multi-monitor stand, then you are going to face a few issues with one being that there is NO VESA 100mm standard rear mount. HP claims that there is an adapter kit you can buy and it looks like it would work, however; others have called HP and they have no knowledge of this KIT or where you can buy it, but again, it's listed on their website--very strange.
I did a bit of surfing to find out that MOST new LED monitors today DO NOT have a VESA monitor mount (google it). And without a kit or adapter you will have to build your own like I eventually did using some ABS plastic, cement, drill, 4mm nuts and bolts. I could have drilled straight into the metal frame under the back cover, but since the monitor is only 10lbs without stand, I opted to use the back cover to hold the mount.
I purchased a 2nd monitor, the HP 2011x that surprising HAS a matte finish, and will mount next to my modified 2711x. I plan to position it vertically on the $60 dual monitor stand. I'll include video and pictures where I can soon.
Conclusion: Don't pass this monitor up especially now that its roughly 100 dollars cheaper than when I first bought mine. You will love the huge display and lower monthly power bill! Tell them Zakk sent you. Peace out.
**UPDATE 5/10/12
Using 1/4 ABS Plastic sheet cut to 120mm x 120mm square using 100mm template hole pattern. ([...])
Remove back monitor cover using a putty knife or butter knife starting at the power switch and work your way around until all the tabs are released.
Using plumbers ABS cement, glue your cut ABS square to the back center of the cover.
Using the 100mm hole pattern template (if you don't have one, make one using a ruler and some thin cardboard) mark and drill 4 5mm holes.
Insert your 4-4mm fine thread, hex head 3/4 inch bolts with nuts tightened down onto the inside back cover.
Use something like this ([...]) and some extra ABS plastic to melt/weld plastic around the nuts holding securely in place.
Remove the bolts and if the nuts stay in place, you did a good job. If they fall out or move too much, start over until you get it right.
Replace the back cover to the monitor and mount it to your stand using your 4-4mm bolts and tighten them down. I also used flat head washers to make it just right.
Now go grab a cold beer and pat yourself on the back for a job well done
