5Also useful for adults  Feb 18, 2010
By Liese A. Thomas "swimmom"
My husband and I wash our hands all day every day due to our respective jobs. In the winter, our hands start to crack and bleed. We put Desitin on our hands (especially in the cracks) overnight. It really speeds up healing! The zinc oxide is antibacterial also. I don't care what it smells like. The relief is worth the smell!

5~*~*~Works GREAT at PREVENTING or Clearing up Diaper Rash~*~*~  Oct 23, 2009
By Mommy of Cuties M & Z "Mom of Twins"
We've used this since my girls(about to turn 1) have been born. There have only been a very few times that they've gotten diaper rash or irritated that lasted more than 1 changing thanks to Desitin.

There was a time when one of my daughters was around 1 month and I had eaten something spicy not thinking it would really affect her breast milk. Boy was I wrong. Even though we changed her diaper right after she poo'd her butt was bright red, it looked like a bad sunburn. I covered her tiny little butt with Desitin Creamy & then topped that with Desitin Original. If you smear on the Creamy first, the Original will smear on even better. By her next diaper change her butt was already getting better and by the next day it was completely cleared up. (no more spicy food for Mommy!)

There have been several times where my girls have gotten diarrhea for a day or several days so no matter how quickly we changed their diapers their little butts would get a little irritated. Desitin helped it to not get out of control & also soothed them.

We put Desitin on ONLY if there is any irritation or redness & it is normally cleared up by the next diaper change.

Make sure you use this at the first sign of irritation to prevent it from getting worse.

****If your baby does have bad diaper rash or irritation, using wipes can burn them. If you have a really soft cloth/rag you can fill a container with warm water & pour in some baby oil. Use this mixture to clean your baby instead of a wipe. If it is a poo diaper, use 1 container w/ mixture & another with warm water to wash cloth/rag out. Let Air Dry. Then take Desitin Creamy & smear all over irritation, then take Desitin Original and smear all of that. Make sure you are checking their diaper very often & changing them right away if they are wet or dirty. (I used to babysit for a little girl with very sensitive skin. This is what I would have to do when her irritation got really bad & it really does work) If the rash gets too bad make sure you take them to the Dr because they will need a prescription.

Desitin Original does not smell as good as the Creamy but it doesn't stink. Original DOES work better than Creamy but I do recommend getting both(and if you think Original Desitin stinks you can use both & it smells good-like the Creamy). We like Desitin better than Balmex, Balmex does not rub in as easily-you have to push kind of hard & keep applying more & more so you will use more.

If you are going on a long car ride you should put a new diaper on your baby right before you leave & put Desitin Original on them. That way if they poo in the car they won't get irritated, or as irritated.

If your baby has sensitive skin & gets irritated or diaper rash easily, put Creamy on after every diaper change OR if that doesnt work then use Original.

Also someone complained that the Original didn't wipe off easily. Well it isn't supposed to! If it came off easily it wouldn't be that good of a barrier to protect babys skin. If you have good wipes, it comes off easier. Our favorite wipes are CVS Brand Soft Cloths!! And we've tried them all.

5Very good  Jan 12, 2008

This stuff clears up a diaper rash right away. I was told Triple Paste was better, but I don't agree-it's about the same. Use this at the first sign of a rash, or even if the rash has gotten a little bad. Don't wait until it's gotten really bad, for that you might need a prescription. Triple paste didn't help us with a very bad rash. Also, remember that the friction from diaper wipes can make rashes worse, so rinse the little bottom instead of using wipes.

3Good But Gross  Nov 05, 2011

Okay, so the product works infinitely better than the regular. But i have to say, it smells like a dead fish. Guess its all that cod liver oil. You do NOT want this on your hands. It works great though. Great great.

4Who cares if it smells funny? It works.  Nov 01, 2011

This is the one we use at night to protect against sitting in a wet diaper for 7 hours or whenever our baby has diaper rash. We have tried a lot of different diaper creams, and yes, they all smell better than this one, but who cares? I don't even notice the smell once the diaper and clothes are back on anyway.
