5Fantastic optic at an unbeatable price.  May 29, 2009
By Shane
This optic is a fantastic value. It is a good $150 cheaper here than at most other online retailers. The glass is insanely clear and the build quality is great (typical of Japanese optics).

Not mounted yet but initial impression is its very nice glass for the money.

The glass is extremely bright and clear. I would put it a notch above my Nikon Monarch 6.5-20. In dusk, the scope actually makes the image brighter than my naked eye shows.

It is built very nicely and is somewhat heavy. Today was cloudy but the illuminated dot was bright and easy to pick up on the "1" setting. With 9 additional brightness settings, I could easily see the dot being daytime visible.

The German #4 reticle seems to allow for quick acquisition. The 1.25x allows for two eyes open comfortably (for me) past about 15 yards or so. There was no information included on how to "use" the reticle. Perhaps there is no range estimation with the #4 reticle?

One thing I was disappointed with were the turrets. It has hunter style turrets. While this isnt necessarily a bad thing, my Monarch has spoiled me with target turrets. On a scope like this, however, I will probably zero it and not mess with the turrets much from there (99% of my shots will be within 200 yards and mostly within 100). That said, the turret adjustments are extremely crisp with a nice audible click.

Obviously I have not mounted it to check zero or do the box test. It will probably be a few weeks before that happens but initial impressions are extremely positive.

If you are on the fence, get this optic. You wont find a better price on it.

5Ignore the description  Dec 22, 2008

Ignore the inaccurate description. This model has the 4A illuminated dot reticle. This is a nice heavy scope with clear glass. And at the sale price it can only be 5 stars...

4Disappointed  Jan 16, 2011
By T. Council "nj-flatfoot"
I just received this scope was very enthused about trying on out on my rifle. When it arrived, i gave it a cursory examination and it looked great. The optics are very bright and extremely sharp and clear. Problems were noted from that point on. With the battery installed, the illuminated reticle would not work, no matter how I tried to coax it to. Since the product instructions shipped with this scope are "generic" instructions for ALL "Elite" series Bushnell scopes, there was NO mention of the illuminated reticle versions. So, there is no way of knowing if or how you can trouble-shoot this problem. I've e-mailed Bushnell's customer service department and will call them during their listed business hours. I'm hoping to get this problem resolved without too many problems because I like this scope.

5nice  Oct 10, 2010

This is a great scope for the Money. After having a millet dms (and a couple clones) and purchasing a Leupold Mark AR 1.5-4x I was having trouble finding a 1-4x scope that I liked. It always seemed to be a compromise. It was either made in china with lower quality glass, or the reticle was all wrong, or the eye relief sucked. This scope is probably the best scope for the money in this category. The glass is very clear, there is no distortion around the edges. In low light or shadowy conditions I have no problem looking into the shadows as it seems light transmission is very good. It also has an illuminated dot in the middle which is a very nice feature for low light or for practical competition use. There is only a defined click when turning the illumination off/on. It is not indexed like most scopes I have used in the past. Could be a bad thing, could be a good thing depending on how you use it and what your preferences are. The Elevation and Windage adjustments are in 1/10 Mil, meaning that each click is 0.36" instead of the typical 1/4 or 1/2" as seen on most scopes. If you need to know the difference, read this: [...] . The scope is a little on the heavy side, but its not a boat anchor. Its about average for an illuminated 1-4x scope. The thing that I like best about this scope is that it has constant eye relief. Most scopes in this category, the eye relief can vary. Some are nearly an inch, like the Mark AR. I find this to be quite annoying. But with the Bushnell it is nearly constant which is what sold me on it. Maybe I am just being nit picky, but having to move my head around like that was not something I wanted to have to do. As far as the magnification goes, its easy to turn. Not as easy or quite as smooth at the Leupold Mark AR, but it works and its fairly quick. Overall, I am more than pleased with this optic and WILL buy one again once I have another rifle to put one on.

5Great scope!!!!  Aug 23, 2010
By Optics Guy
This scope lives up to the reputation of optical quality that one would expect from a Bushnell Elite 4200 scope. Granted a 1.25x4 rifle scope is usually classified as an African big game scope, this is a super maginfication range for Eastern whitetail hunting in the woods or on a small greenfield. This would be a great scope to mount on an AR15 for calling coyotes. The illuminated 1 MOA Red dot on the 4A Reticle works well during the day or night and Wally World has the battery. What's not to like about this scope? I have not found a better price on this on this scope anywhere.
