Barbie made for a Merry Christmas Jan 14, 2008
By Chellie For an almost-8-year-old who's starting to pay attention to what's "cool," this cutely geeky mp3 player was easily one of the favorite gifts under the tree this year. For the price, Mom and Dad were thrilled!
The software installed easily and we were able to load a ton of songs on the player before Christmas morning. Loading new songs is also possible without the software, so we can easily move the player between the multiple computers at our house as well as computers at the grandparents', friends, etc.
The sound quality is just fine - better than I expected. One of the features I really liked is that the volume doesn't go *too* high; it's plenty loud enough to hear the music (and to drown out boring adult conversation!) but, unlike many players, isn't loud enough to make me worry about the health of her eardrums.
The battery charge seems to last forever. We have yet to drain the battery, even after hours of continuous play. The charger is straightforward enough that a 7 year old can place and remove the player as needed, and the red LED light on the face makes it easy for all of us to see if it's charging properly.
So far our player has survived a few tumbles to the floor without a scratch. Beware that it may cause spontaneous, random dancing to various High School Musical tracks, and thus a fall or two, but the player will most likely be fine. Skinned knees and injured pride were the only problems we had.
The website is....so-so. Ours isn't much of a fan, but it's cute and thousands of other little girls seem to love it. It may hold more interest for a girl a year or two older.
This mp3 player is a good buy and I've found no negatives at all. Until they're ready for one of the more expensive, feature-laden players, this may just be the perfect gift for any little girl!

Barbie Girls rips off my princess: membership fee they don't disclose until you buy the toy Jan 31, 2009
By Lalou My little daughter was very excited to get this toy, had been waiting every day for our Mailwoman to deliver it. She liked it a lot but when I was signing up for the website for her, I saw that they had put a sticker on the website instructions that changed the "free membership" for the premium parts of the website from one YEAR to one MONTH! Really! First of all, the toy never mentioned in the description that the website it accessed required a monthly fee of about 6 bucks to access the "premium" membership that makes the site usable with the accessories and things that you just bought! What a rip off! You buy the stuff and then can't use it unless you pony up for a monthly membership! Without the "premium" membership the website is basically unusable and lame. I won't be buying any more of these rip-off products Barbie/Disney.

Best toy Santa left us!!! Jan 02, 2008
By Mockingbird I just love this MP3 player! Oh, my Gosh...Barbie's lips light up so you know it's on! This was by far the EASIEST set up for any electronic device I've ever bought. I'm still trying to get two MP3's to work from last Christmas. The sound quality is great, there's a couple of songs on there already. I loaded songs right off the computer with absolutely no problems. I love the additional accessories that can be bought to go with it too. We have the Panda set, so there are little "earrings" that clip onto the earpieces! How cute is that? My daughter also has had a blast on the Barbie Girl website, it's similar to the WebKinz interactive website. It stashes well and is extremely easy to work.

Attn: MAC users!!!!!!!!!!! Jan 05, 2008
By S. E. Earl
"earlfam"
This was the top item on my daughter's Christmas list, but we didn't think we would be able to give it to her b/c it is not mac compatible. Since we are total softies we actually broke down and bought PC emulation software in the hopes that we would be able to make the MP3 player work with our Mac. It didn't work. But here is the good news......
If you have access to a PC (at work, a friend or family member, etc.) just one time. You can hook the MP3 player to their computer to set up the required passwords. After that you can use the MP3 player to access everything that you want at the Barbie Girls web site from your Mac at home.
And to make things even better it is incredibly easy to put songs on the MP3 player from your Mac. (and you don't have to corrupt your Mac with PC software!!!!!!)
My daughter uses her Barbie Girls MP3 player constantly and LOVES it!!!!!!!

Fun and Simple MP3 Player May 31, 2008
By Julie Mally If you just want something simple that looks pretty, this MP3 player does the job. But it may be too simple. There is no way to choose an individual song, you have to just keep scrolling through your songs till you get to the one you want. I really wish this player came with a LED screen. My only other problem with it is the controls. That circular style of control can be a real problem. Sometimes it thinks you hit the pause when you just wanted to change songs, or sometimes it will think you wanted to change songs when all you're trying to do is lower or raise the volume. I had a problem with not knowing I had accidentally lowered the volume to none, and had to keep fiddling with it till I got sound again. We really needed individual control buttons.
Installing the software is easy. And you really don't need it or the complicated instructions for adding songs to the player. Just choose to open a writable folder when you plug it in and Windows asks you what to do. It will open the drive of your MP3 player. Then you can just drag and drop your songs in there. But do make sure you follow the instructions for safely removing the device before you unplug it.
I also thought the instruction manual wasn't clear enough on a few things.
The player lets you access extra fun things on the BarbieGirls website. It's a fun time waster.
You can buy accessories for your player and make it look different, which is really the main feature. It is fun to change the hair or clothing.
I would recommend this player, just be sure you only want something really simple. Don't expect it to do anything but play some songs and look pretty.
