Critical Design Flaws. Dec 05, 2006
By Adam Sterling I should begin this review by saying that I own a number of All Clad pots and pans, each of which is made of exceptional materials and functions perfectly. For the serious home cook, they are well worth the cost. I purchased my All Clad food mill based on this previous experience, from a famous NYC gourmet/housewares retailer.
The food mill itself is beautifully made from top quality materials. The fit and finish of all components is excellent. But the design flaws are so glaring that I suggest you avoid this product entirely. What are the problems?
First, the narrow recesses at the bottom of the mill's bowl (into which you put the foods to be processed) are SO narrow and so precise that they fit only onto a specific bowl, not one you might happen to already have in the house. This results in additional expense.
Second, while the three graduated inserts are an excellent idea, so that one can get various textures of milled food, the blade that rotates on top of them has a very acute angle of attack against the inserts, and so anything larger than a pea will not fit under it and thus be forced through the insert.
Third, the blade is held against the insert by the downward pressure of a spring. The spring is too weak to exert much pressure, and so the blade often rotates uselessly atop the insert while your food is stirred around on top of it.
Fourth, and most critical, the knob on the end of the handle ~ it's a large steel ball that fits perfectly in my hand ~ does not rotate as you crank the handle. This results in a lot of friction against your palm and a lot of pushing and pulling instead of a smooth continuous motion. This causes a lot of extra, wasted labor.
I bought this (unfortunately) horrid thing from a top-line merchant. After I'd used it for Thanksgiving dinner, I showed the department manager its obvious flaws. He totally agreed with me that this is an inferior tool, and refunded my money with a smile.
Given the quality of other products made and sold by All Clad, I'm surprised they released this thing for sale.

not good Mar 29, 2007
By B. Michael I am a chef, I have used the best food mills out there, and this is not one of them, in fact, this is a waist of metal, it does not work at all.
That is hard to admit, as I love all-clad pans, they are the best.

Over Priced and Useless All-Clad Food Mill - Arrogant Customer [DON'T] Care Nov 02, 2009
By Denyse E. Leslie This useless food mill is retail priced $145. I paid $119 plus $17 shipping. It is poorly designed. I expected it to have the "footing" all other food mills have so that it can be used over any manufacturer's bowls and pots with sufficient width and depth so that milled food materials for soups, for example, can collect in the bottom of the bowl or pot. This product only fits one specific quite small All-Clad pot that is 2 1/4 quarts and the exact width around as the food mill as it can only fit flush on top of this particular pot thereby limiting collection space. The retailer recognized the limitations of the food mill and agreed to take it back, refund my $119, with the return shipping paid by them, but not the original $17 shipping expense. When I contacted All-Clad I got their arrogance and insistence that the picture and description on Amazon made it clear their food mill (the highest priced in the mkt) did not have the required footing and that it only works on their one sized pot that lacks depth needed for proper milling of food. No stock pot, nothing else they manufacure fits this food mill flush. They refused to announce the deficiency in design and make a recall as I requested. They have taken the food mill off the market. They refused to refund the $17 shipping I lost in purchase of their deficient product. They offered to send me a coupon for $10 or so off my next purchase of an All Clad product. They never sent the coupon. As a consequence of the poor way I was treated by the head if Customer Support and her staff I will no longer be buying All-Clad cookware. I will also not be buying cookware from Amazon (which has no ability to attest to cookware product quality or utility). All-Clad does not respect its customers and does not stand behind its brand when products fail to meet reasonable consumer expectations. This clear design error should be acknowledged. The Customer Service, Marketing, and Design departments should, as I asked, use this food mill to make potatoe and leek soup. BUYER BEWARE. [I was unable to unmark star and could not rate no star or lower]

Not made in the USA Nov 02, 2008
By E. Leiby If you are looking for a food mill that is made in the USA, this one is not. Even though in the description it says it is. I ordered this item and never even took it out of the box. After reading that it was made in China I returned it. The inability to find things made in the USA anymore is very disappointing.

By Ms. Natasha Levine I ordered it and returned back, not even trying. I am a big fan of All-clad, but this one is mis-designed to my mind. Could not even visualise using it-too cumbersome
