5The Best of the High End Grills  Oct 22, 2011
By BigK
We've had grill envy forever, having survived on Webers and Char-Broils for most of our life. Our house is big and made for entertaining so we finally broke down and decided to get a grill to match, as we cook most of our meals outdoors. We research everything and looked at the complete selection of high-end options.

There are many good options out there, but everyone I asked told me that Lynx was the best. We decided to buy their biggest model, the 54", because we want to entertain frequently. We have a Viking range indoors, but the Lynx is so good that it has become our default for cooking (even pancakes, since we got the optional griddle)!

The feature I like best is the Pro Sear. I've really never been able to get tuna steaks done just quite right but the Pro Sear really makes this simple -- and restaurant quality. We're more ambitious in what we try to prepare when friends come over. Last week we used the rotisserie and next week we're planning on trying the smoker.

We chose the natural gas option. I've lived my whole life with propane but our house had a natural gas hookup so I researched it a bit. Natural gas is less expensive, but that saves only $1 or so per session. The biggest advantage is that it is significantly more convenient. No trips to the store to replace propane and no running out of fuel at the last minute!

One thing I appreciated about Lynx is that they're local -- everything in manufactured here in Southern CA. I was having a bit of trouble figuring out the natural gas connection so I called up Lynx (three times actually) and got excellent assistance on every occasion. I had to make a run to Home Depot to buy "gas tape" in order to assure a non-leak seal and now everything is up and running to perfection.

If you can afford the best and can afford to treat yourself, I'd highly recommend a Lynx.
